Burlington BOH Invites the Public to Learn About Food Safety Education Month

The US Food and Drug Association (FDA) has declared September as Food Safety Month.  The Federal government estimates that there are about 48 million cases of foodborne illness annually – that’s about 1 in 6 Americans each year- resulting in an estimated 128,000 hospitalizations and 3,000 deaths. .  By educating yourself on food safety, you can take an active role in preventing foodborne illness and help lower your chance of getting sick.

The Burlington Board of Health invites the public to visit their food safety education display table at the Board of Health, 61 Center St., 2nd floor. Residents can get information on numerous food safe topics such as food safe shopping and storage, safe meal preparation, recipes with food safety instructions, how to cook for large groups, safe home buffets. In addition give away items include children’s coloring placemats, cooking temperatures magnet, and travel hand soap.  This information will be displayed until September 30 so stop by the Board of Health office during office hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm, Wednesday 8:30am – 7:00pm, and Friday 8:30am – 1:00pm.
